Insert a table in a schematic
HydroSym makes it easy to add a table to your schematic. To insert a table, click the Draw Table button in the Drawing toolbar. Left-click with your mouse button on the desired position in your schematic to place the table. Tables in HydroSym always have an initial size of 2x3 cells.
An empty 2x3 table isn’t all that useful, double-click the table to open the Table Properties window.
The ‘Table Properties’ window shows the empty 2x3 table. Various options can be selected to adjust the settings of the table.
These are the following:
- Insert column inserts a new column to the right of the selected column. If column A is selected, a new column will insert between A and B.
- Insert row inserts a row below the selected row. If for example row 2, a new row will insert between row 2 and 3.
- Add column adds a column at the end (right side) of the table.
- Add row appends a row at the bottom of the table.
- Delete column removes the selected column.
- Delete row removes the selected row.
When a certain row is selected you can double-click on it to change its content. Another way to change the content of a cell is to fill in the “Content” bar under the table. To the right of this option you can choose if the content of the selected cell is text or a number. When a number is selected, the precision of that number can be changed too.
As mentioned above, the content of a cell can either be text or a number. Symbols can also be chosen as content of a cell. Often it is necessary to insert certain symbols in your table to get a clear view of your data. When a cell needs to be filled in with a symbol the following option can be chosen:
Select the option “Cell fill style” in the top right corner of the screen.
The cell in which the desired symbol needs to be put in has to be selected before this option is chosen. Cell A has been selected in this example and the option filled circle is chosen. The cell will then look like the following:
In this way various symbols can be filled in the cells of your table.
Various other options
A: align the content of the selected cell(s) to the left, middle or the right.
B: rotate the content of the selected cell(s) horizontal or vertical.
C: when multiple cells are selected, this option can be selected to make those selected cells one. (And the other way around).
D: adjust the width of a selected column and/or the height of a selected row. This can also be done by dragging the line between a column/row.
E: change the thickness of a certain line. If “Header columns” is given a value of 2, the outer line of the second column is made thicker. The same goes for “Header rows”.
F: change the settings of the text of the entire table including color and size.
G: when the option “Use table text style settings” is not selected, with this option the style of the selected cell(s) can be changed.
When it is desired to move a certain row or column this can be done so by dragging the row or column to the desired location.
In the left-top corner of the window you can find the option “Clear table”. This will completely empty your table. With the other two options “Import file” and “Export file” you can import and export a certain file (table) to/from the window.
There is another option in Hydrosym to easily change the cell size to its content. For example, if you have a cell that is quite small and its content exceeds the cell’s size you can use this option to change the size of the cell according to the size of its content.
The next example has been made to make this clear:
In this table, the content of cell B3 exceeds the size of its cell. To adjust the size of the cell to its content, double-click the column or row (in this case column B or row 3). The size of the cell will then automatically adjust to its content, as seen in the image below:
Another problem you can encounter, is that the content is too long and will not start a new line under each other. There is an option in Hydrosym to easily wrap the text. The next example has been made to make this clear:
In the table above you can see the content of cell B1 is in one line and takes in a lot of. The option marked above cell B1 is the option you can use to wrap the text of the selected cell. The text will then, in stead of continuing in one line, appear in multiple lines. When this option is selected in the given example, the next result will come out:
As you can see, the content of the cell has appeared in multiple lines in stead of one. In this way space is being saved for other cells so that you can arrange the content of your table more sufficiently.
